How come that after 333 years of Spain's invasion, America was able to again colonize the Philippines?
Heneral Luna tells us the story how.
In the movie, it was shown that Buencamino and Pedro Paterno is trying to suggest a compromise instead of having a war against America. In this way, Philippines' economy will improve as for them. Moreover, they are trying to suggest to avoid war so as to avoid people's death.
Is this really the answer? Or shall we agree to Gen. Luna in quoting them as 'traitors of the Philippines'?
Let us take Scarborough Shoal for example. This is just a part of the Philippines China is trying to claim. A small part in our country wherein Filipinos strongly disagree. Filipinos are trying to fight for it.. to claim it. Going back to history, it's the whole land of the Philippines we are talking. Whoever agrees to compromise instead and be slaves of our own country shall be quoted as one.
Lack of Unity. One aspect that was clearly shown in the movie leaded by Capt. Pedro Janolino and Gen. Tomas Mascardo along with Buencamino and Pedro Paterno. Gen. Luna was right. We are our worst enemy.
Moving forward, I heard a question about Gen. Luna's way of disciplining his people.
If I ask you, was it an improper way? And if you ask me, I'll take no as an answer.
If you are talking to an English illiterate for example, and you're a graduate with Bachelor's Degree, can you make that as an excuse to speak in English even knowing the person is illiterate in the language? Just because you're being professional?
No. Because regardless on how good you say it, the person won't understand you. For you to be understood you have to be on the same level as what the person is.
Heneral Luna's way is the exact way those people shall be disciplined. How can we obtain our freedom when our countrymen are fighting and dying for our country while the Captain of Kawit is on his bed with his girl? Gen. Luna is busy on thinking of strategies over the Americans while Gen. Mascardo is attending feast..
We have heroes over the past trying to fight for our country. Only if we were united, we should have got what we were fighting for.
With regards to Gen. Luna's death, I can say that Gen. Luna was kind but he had too much self-confidence. Gen. Luna is kind in his way of thinking. All he thinks is all for his country. He fights for it, he'll die for it. But it doesn't even crossed his mind that someone from his countrymen might kill him - because he is kind for not having such kind of thinking. He had too much self-confidence that he was not afraid to travel alone or to travel with just two of his troops. In addition, there was a scene wherein he went to see Gen. Mascardo and asked Mascardo's troops to shoot him - but no one did. He knows that no one will because he was just someone protecting the Philippines.
If you had a fight with someone in a bar for example, are you going back to that bar alone? No. You'll ask for someone to accompany you or not go back to that bar at all. Why? Because you know you might meet the same person at the same place.
Even generals nowadays will first have an advance party to see if there is a threat before they actually show up.
Same goes with Gen. Luna. Only if he had the ability to think this way, his death could have been avoided.
Overall, Heneral Luna is a historical film that will open up your mind to things that were not discussed to you in your history class. It's not only about the lack of weapons or their advancement in technology that caused Philippines be colonized. It's the lack of unity amongst our countrymen.

Today Oct. 29, 2015, I plan to read all the posts on Heneral Luna in commemoration of his 149th birthday. Happy Birthday, Heneral!
