7 - School of Management Week

As an accountancy student, I know that debit must always be equal to credit. Moreover, I know that balance must still be observed between academics and social life.

I am a transferee and as I continue my journey of being an accountancy student of Asia Pacific College, I’m expecting to continue growing as an individual. The activities we are having each day surely are helpful though are stressful at the same time.

When I first heard that SOM Week is about to be celebrated, I got reallyyyyy excited. I was expecting a total unforgettable experience and I was expecting activities that will strengthen the bond of each program under the School of Management.

However, I could not say that I totally enjoyed the celebration. I don’t even think that I enjoyed at all. Most of the activities are seminars which we are forced to listen. It’s not that I didn’t like it, I just didn’t enjoy it. Seminars provided me knowledge – workplace, home, school. It’s good to hear such talk but then I was expecting a bit more of entertaining stuffs.

Unfortunately, most fun stuffs are happening in the evening. For the whole week, there were almost no classes. We go to school for attendance and/or for seminars. Because of this, we still have to wait like 5 hours or more if we’d like to watch the basketball, attend the SOM Night, watch the SOM Pageant. It’d be okay if I live near Magallanes, Makati; however, I live at some place in Laguna which makes it hard for me to go home at that hour – main reason why I was not able to attend any activities aside from seminars that were conducted.

SOM Week, is just a regular week for me. I prefer attending classes than doing nothing. It’s a waste of time and money to go to school and knowing there’s no classes. SOM Week could have been better only if activities that were organized are meant to provide balance between academic and non-academic. I’m expecting more of non-academic activities the whole week simply because academic can clearly be observed every single day. I’m expecting more of team buildings, icebreaker, and things as such.

I expected too much, I guess. Or maybe I’m just a killjoy myself for not attending evening activities.

  1. I also did not enjoy the SOM week because I think they lack in organization. We are forced to go to school for attendance only. Some of the activities are quiet boring and can't accomodate most of the student. And most of the activities are in the evening since it is traffic some students would rather go home than participate in some activities
